I'm posting the following photo as part of Sepia Saturday. Please click here to view more Sepia Saturday photos and stories.
This photo has two men with beards. But there is a third man in the photo and he obviously wasn't present when the photo was taken, or was deceased. He has been not so cleverly added into the photo for some reason. Maybe this is a four generations photo pasted together because one of the generations was not present at the time.
On the back of the photo is written "Lena Grandfather"
I'm not sure who Lena is but she may be the little girl in the photo and one of the men may be her Grandfather, or the Grandfather of the person who wrote on the back of the photo.
I have German ancestry and Lena is generally a shortened version of Magdalena. Maybe this family shot has something to do with my family. Maybe it is just family friends. My German ancestors has a lot of German friends after they came to Christchurch, New Zealand.
Whoever this photo is from, it is very interesting. Again, I just wish my ancestors had written on the backs of their photos!
I’ve never seen old style photoshopping before; how intriguing.
ReplyDeleteIntriguing is the right word for this. I would guess that your idea of a 4 generation photo is the answer. The age spread looks about right. What good looking people all four of them are!
ReplyDeleteThe younger gentleman is an obvious add-in, but it was certainly neatly done if not perfect (shadows are wrong & no feet or legs to speak of). It does make for an interesting photo. What's really a puzzle, though, is why, after all that effort, someone didn't write the names on the back?
ReplyDeleteI'm now wondering if the guy was at war, or maybe he had died suddenly and they added him in for the wee girl when she was older. I don't know if I'll ever know who these people are!
DeleteIntriguing.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a lovely clear photo and I love that you can see down the back yard and the cane chair is very beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteDo you think it looks like cabbages on one side, and fruit trees going down the property. Quite a domestic setting really! And the poor missing guy may have been at war or deceased. A real mystery!
DeleteGreat take off on the theme...and what an intriguing family photo...of strangers!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have thought that the photo had been added to, if you hadn't told us.
ReplyDeleteFascinating photo and the little girl is adorable.
ReplyDeleteI doubt I would have noticed the photo trick, but now that I'm studying it, I can see it clearly. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteSurprising that they would have done that back then, but it makes sense if the young man was Lena's father. Hopefully he was just away, not deceased!
