The following marriage certificate is wrong wrong wrong. My 3 x great grandmother Elizabeth Gillespie married William Henry Luff in 1868 in Hokitika. They sent off an intention to marriage and the husband's name was spelt William Henry Liff. Just slightly wrong. But on the marriage certificate the husband was named as William Peterson. The strange thing was that there was a William Peterson living in the area at the time. Did the minister get a bit confused and write down the wrong person? What are the names of the witnesses and what was there relationship to my ancestors. All of this is interesting to me. The flickr image can be blown up for greater detail.
